Shoutout to the Earth 🌎 on this Earth day!

This is the first time I have been without a garden in a long time, and it’s making me think. I have been taking all these benefits here for granted.
So on this Earth day, I have one message; Go get a garden!
I’m not saying it has to be a big garden. Get a container or a houseplant, and grow indoors or outside. How you produce is not essential. All that matters is that you develop something.

Once you start gardening, I promise you will put some respect on the Mother Earth’s name ✌🏾

1️⃣. Sweet potato slips can easily be propagated at home!
2️⃣. Production- One slip is capable of producing, multiple pounds of potatoes from the underground tubers. After harvesting store these tubers somewhere dark and cool.
3️⃣. Sweet potatoes cover the ground by creating a living mulch during the summer when its extremely hot and there are not a ton of options to grow. Keeping the soil covered is a great way to maintain the health of the soil food web.
4️⃣. You are able to harvest at many stages. Also, if you didn’t know the leaves of the sweet potatoes are edible. So you are actually able to harvest and eat the potato at all different stages.

My son went to take a shower and came back out looking confused. I asked him, “What's wrong?” He said “I can't take a shower with plants everywhere.” I don’t think he was amused.

I'm starting to understand why people like houseplants so much. This could eventually turn into a problem.🤷🏾‍♂️

This is still one of my favorite gardens in the city, but I have been crazy busy and haven't been giving it enough attention.

There is a bunch of work to do here this spring.
➡️Expanding the garden by adding more raised beds and no-till beds
➡️Replacing the fruit trees that died
➡️Setting up a hydroponic growing system
➡️Still growing a bunch of food for whoever shows up

I also have an idea that I'm putting the finishing touches on that will deal with many different community gardens. We will talk about that later…

➡️ Just a reminder that the health of your soil is the most critical part of your garden.
➡️ It takes time to build healthy soil.
Purchase the best soil money can buy, and you will have a good harvest.
➡️ You have to feed the soil for it to remain active and produce results.
➡️ Soil is alive. I think people forget that. Don't focus on which fertilizer to use.
➡️ Focus on what you could be doing to have healthier soil.

It's that time in Houston. Time to plant your tomatoes. If your garden is ready and you have amended the soil, now is a great time to get your starts in the ground.
Remember that we could have another freeze, so be prepared to protect your plants. I may miss this tomato season at my house, but I will definitely fill the community garden beds with tomatoes this week.

Certain plants, like monstera, produce aerial roots. When these roots can attach themselves to the bark of another tree, plants like monstera can truly shine. A moss pole has a similar texture to tree bark and gives your monstera a vertical structure to cling to and climb.
