ABOUT BIG CITY GARDENER

BIG CITY GARDENER

I’m Tim Hammond, the guy behind Big City Gardener. I’ve been gardening for over 30 years, which basically means I’ve failed every way you can fail with plants and still come back for more. I grow food in tight spaces, teach what I learn, and try to make gardening feel less like a secret club and more like something anyone can jump into. My yard isn’t perfect, my beds aren’t symmetrical, and plants still die on me. That’s real life. I replant and keep moving.

But here’s the truth. Big City Gardener might have been started by me, Timothy Hammond, but this is not about me. This is about us. This is about building a community where people can learn, experiment, laugh, mess up, try again, and fall in love with gardening in their own way. I wanted a place where you could show up and feel like you belong, even if you’re just figuring out how to keep basil alive.

This is a space to connect with other gardeners, make friends, trade stories, and meet people who get why soil makes you strangely happy. To quote one of my favorite movies, New Jack City, Big City Gardener is bigger than Nino Brown. I might have started the platform, but it has never been about me. It has always been about we.

Here you’ll find honest tips, tutorials, experiments, wins, fails, and all the in-between moments that make gardening real. I’m not here to lecture. I’m here to help you build confidence and enjoy the process. If you learn one thing that makes your garden better, then we’re growing together.

And yeah… if you want to support what we’re building, grab a shirt, a planner, or something. It helps keep the soil bags flowing.

Let’s keep planting.
